About Us
A Positive Path for Spiritual Living
What is Unity?
Unity is an inclusive spiritual community. We honor universal truths in all faiths and religions. We offer positive, practical ways to help people apply spiritual principles to everyday life.
Unity is for people who might consider themselves spiritual, but not religious. The teachings of Unity bring together ancient wisdom with new interpretations.
Unity inspires different ways of thinking about the Universal Force of Love and Intelligence that many people call GOD.
Unity is a positive, practical, progressive way to follow the teachings of Jesus and other spiritual masters.
Our 5 Principles
1
God is everywhere and always present in every circumstance. This divine energy underlies and animates all of existence.
2
Human beings are innately good because they are connected to and are an expression of Spirit.
3
Our thoughts have creative power to influence events and determine our experiences.
4
Prayer and meditation connect and align us to our own spiritual nature and to God.
5
It is not enough to understand spiritual teachings. We must incorporate the truth we know in our thoughts, words and deeds.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
God
We believe that each person in an expression of God. Our essential nature is therefore inherently good. Our purpose is to express our divine potential. The more we awaken to our own divine nature, the more fully God expresses in us and through us.
YOUR POWERFUL Mind
When we take responsibility to choose life-affirming thoughts, words and actions, we experience a more fulfilling and abundant life. Unity teachings continue to grow as we identify, embrace and apply spiritual insights and implications of new discoveries in psychology, science, literature, physics, and history.
The BIBLE
The Bible continues to be a valuable spiritual resource for us, but it’s not the only one. Unity co-founders, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, studied the Bible as allegory, and interpreted it as a metaphysical representation of our evolutionary journey towards spiritual awakenings. We realize the Bible is a complex collection of writings compiled over many centuries. We honor those writings as reflecting the understanding of that time.
Prayer and Meditation
Affirmative prayer is the highest form of creative thought. It includes the release of counterproductive negative thoughts, as well as holding in mind uplifting statements of spiritual truth. Meditation is where we experience the still, quiet voice inside, the Presence of God. Prayer and meditation heighten our awareness of God, and thereby, transform our lives.
Jesus
We follow Jesus as the Master who shows us the way. We believe that Jesus expressed his Divine potential and sought to show us how to do the same. In Unity, we use the term “Christ” to mean the divine nature that is inside humankind. Jesus is the great example of the Christ in expression. We listen for and follow the Holy Spirit of Jesus.
